The global pandemic caused by the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome-Coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) is putting our healthcare systems at stake. Whole scientific community is working round the clock for new therapy of COVID. But still now we are far from uncovering myths around covid.
Whatever we know from two years experience, that most of Covid patients are getting recovered. But many of them are suffering from post covid symptoms. POST-COVID time is very much irritable and frustrating times.
Headache attributed to COVID-19 is common in both genders and middle-aged people, while patients without headache are older and male. History of headache of any type is more common in patients presenting headache as a COVID-19 symptom, but not exclusive. Interestingly, the presence of headache in COVID-19 is significantly associated with other cranial symptoms, anosmia/ageusia.
Most of the patients are having headache during and after covid.Headaches after recovering from COVID-19 can be persistent for some patients, and neurologists are finding some effective ways to address the debilitating pain that can linger. One third of patients are suffering from headache after COVID.
HOW TO COUNTER POST-COVID HEADACHE
SUFFICIENT WATER
Sufficient water can decrease the post covid headache. Try to drink atleast 3 litres of water. It will help early recovery from POST-COVID symptoms. Hydration also decreases the chance of thrombosis.
SLEEP WELL
Good night’s sleep will help in limiting your stress level. The covid time is stressful for everyone. Along with it breathing difficulties cause sleeplessness. It indirectly causes headache in post covid patients.
KEEP AWAY FROM NEGATIVE NEWS
From the day of starting covid the media houses are doing continuous reporting about COVID. Most of the news are negative. Even common people are getting panicked. Due to panic many people are loosing sleep. We have seen recent rise in stress headache during last two years due to apprehension.
DO SOME BREATHING EXERCISE & MEDITATION
Meditation is a fantastic tool for stressed mind. Do meditation and breathing exercises to counter headache. It will decrease your stress level too. Breathing exercises with respirometer will help early recovery of lungs. But too much heavy exercise is not necessary.
HEALTHY DIET
High protein diet is necessary after covid. For headache cheese and other milk products should not be taken at night.
VISIT NEUROLOGIST IF IT DOESN’T IMPROVE
Many post covid headache are later diagnosed as migraine or new daily persistent headache. So if headache is troubling you more, visit Neurologist for further therapy. There are two types of drugs for headache. The ‘Rescuer therapy’ decreases sudden pain. The ‘Preventive therapy’ prevents the episodes. Proper headache treatment will help in decreasing the frequency and severity.
POST-COVID HEADACHE is a very common phenomenon. If it doesn’t improve with regular treatment, it can be difficult to control.
